LIVESTREAM: Japan XLeague – Obic Seagulls v. Panasonic Impulse, Sunday, Oct. 20, 11a (4a CEDT, 10p Oct 19 EDT)

The Obic Seagulls (4-0) take on the 3-1 Panasonic Impulse in what is shaping up to be the game of the week in Japan’s Xleague at Expo Flash Field Osaka.

Obic has looked impressive whipping the All Mitsubishi Lions 48-16, the Elecom Kobe Finies 38-3, Tokyo Gas Creators 62-7 and Nojima Sagamihara Rise 30-0.

Seagulls quarterback Shun Sugawara has thrown for 422 yards and five touchdowns while his key receiver is Noriaki Kinoshita, MVP of the Pearl Bowl final, who has 187 yards receiving so far. Tomoki Jimura is the Seagulls’ leading rusher with 26 carries for 244 yards.

The Impulse have looked almost as good in beating the Rise 24-0, IBM Big Blue 42-28 and Tokyo  27-0 but they dropped a 45-27 decision to the unbeaten Fujitsu Frontiers.

For Panasonic, quarterback Anthony Lawrence leads a balanced attack. He is the second leading passer in the league having thrown for 879 yards and five touchdowns. His top receiver is Tatsuya Tonhana with 20 receptions for 292 yards and three touchdowns while Daniel Wise has 175 yards receiving and a touchdown.

In the game against the Rise, the Impulse scored three second half touchdowns to break open a tight game. Wide receiver Daniel Wise scored one of those touchdowns on a jet sweep and displayed his speed in doing so. Running back Victor Mitchell rushed for 127 yards.

This is the best game in the XLeague so far this season. This is a battle between the only two teams that have won an XLeague title, other than Fujitsu, in the last seven years. Panasonic won the 2015 championship, beating the Frontiers 24-21, while the Seagulls beat Fujitsu 24-13 won the 2013 crown.
