LIVESTREAM: Spain – Mallorca Voltors @Coslada Camioneros, Sunday, Feb. 23, 12p CET (6a ET)

The 2-1 Mallorca Voltors pay a visit to Coslada, on the outskirts of Madrid to face the 0-3 Coslada Camioneros, Sunday, February 23 as the Spanish League of American Football rolls into its fourth round of action.

The Camioneros lost their season opener to the Fuengirola Potros 16-6 and then were pummelled 45-0 by the Murcia Cobras. Two weeks ago, they dropped a tough 14-6 decision to the Las Roas Black Demons.

Mallorca opened the year with a 41-6 pounding of the Fuengirola Potros and followed that up by whipping the 2019 semifinalists, the Murcia Cobras 41-16. They then suffered a heart-breaking 39-38 overtime defeat at the hands of the Black Demons.

For the Camioneros, the signing of German safety Christian Köppe (two-time German Bowl winner with the New Yorker Lions) will hopefully help to shore up a defense which is the second worst in the South division. But with only 12 points scored in three games, the offense would seem to be a top priority. Quarterback Alberto Romero can throw the football and with a receiving corps that includes Óscar Zazo, the Camioneros can cause problems for opposing defenses.

Voltors new head coach Andrés Gelabert has definitely found the personnel for a vast improvement on 2019. Quarterback Ty Henry (Western State Colorado University) who spent the last five years playing in Brazil and Australia, has delivered much-needed punch and with veteran wide receiver Jeremy Cornelius (Lock Haven U.) who played for Austria’s Amstetten Thunder for the past two seasons and Robert Brice ( Georgia Southern) at both running back and defensive back, he has the second-highest scoring offense in Spain. The Voltors also have two excellent European receivers, Germany’s Max Siemssen (Frankfurt Universe) and Slovakian L’uboš Paprčka (Bratislava Monarchs).

The outcome of this game would seem to be a foregone conclusion based on records this year, but Coslada is playing at home and in their last loss to Las Rozas, the defense kept them in the game. If they can do that again today and Romero can find his targets, it could be interesting.
