German Football League Gearing Up For 2017 Kickoff

The start of the the German Football League season is right around the corner so GFL Internet TV & Radio has produced a great promo trailer featuring action from 2016.

This year will see two brand new teams enter the league. The Ingolstadt Dukes and Cologne Crocodiles  emerged from the relegation playoffs as winners. The Dukes overwhelmed the Rhein-Neckar Bandits in a two-game series while Cologne recorded two lopsided victories over the Dusseldorf Panther. Ingolstadt will join GFL South and Cologne GFL North.

The remaining teams in GFL North include the reigning champion Braunschweig New Yorker Lions, Dresden Monarchs, Kiel Baltic Hurricanes, Berlin Rebels, Berlin Adler and Hamburg Huskies.

GFL South will consist of the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, Frankfurt Universe, Marburg Mercenaries, Munich Cowboys, Stuttgart Scorpions, Allgäu Comets and Saarland Hurricanes.

The GFL was formed in 1979 and the first team to win the German League championship that year was the  Frankfurter Löwen. Since then, the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions have captured the title a record 11 times. The Dusseldorf Panther have won the German crown six times followed by the Berlin Adler also with six German Bowl wins.

The GFL kicks off April 22 and winds up with German Bowl XXXVIIII on October 7.
