Kiel Baltic Hurricanes, Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns and Munich Cowboys lead individual stats at midpoint of German season

As the German Football League hits the midpoint of the season some familiar patterns are emerging in terms of the leaders of the four key statistical categories.. And there are surprises. The number one team in Europe, the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions, has only one player among the top two in any category. And one team, the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes, has players leading in two of the four categories.

Passing

Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns quarterback Marco Ehrenfried leads the top offense in Germany and his passing yardage is one reason. He has 2,298 yards passing in eight games and 29 TD passes. Rick Webster of the Ingolstadt Dukes is a surprise 2nd on the list with 2,235 yards passing and a league-leading 34 TD passes. Dresden Monarchs QB Garrett Safron is 3rd in passing yardage with 1,974 yards and 27 TD passes. Following him in 4th is Australian Jared Stegman of the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes with 1,803 yards and 29 TDs. Casey Therriault of the New Yorker Lions is 5th with his 1,694 passing yards.

Receiving

Kiel WR Xavier Mitchell is the favorite target of QB Jared Stegman and he leads the league in receiving yardage with 788. Not surprisingly, New Yorker Lions WR Niklas Römer is 2nd with 727 yards while Christian Hafels of the Allgau Comets is a surprising 3rd. Dresden Monarch WR Sebastian Sagne is again among the top five with 649 yards putting him 4th and Tyler Rutenback of the Unicorns is 5th with his 641 yards receiving.

Rushing

Kiel Baltic Hurricanes RB Chris McClendon was one of the top two rushers in the GFL in 2016 and he is the leader halfway through this season. He as rushed for 996 yards and 10 TDs. RB Kevin Parks of the Cologne Crocodiles is 2nd with 926 yards and a league-leading 12 TDs. Frankfurt’s Silas Nacita has rushed for 648 yards in six games, good for 3rd on the list. Veteran RB David McCants is the 4th leading rusher in Germany with 595 yards and his eight TDs put him past the 100 career TD mark! Fabien Gaertner of the 2-8 Munich Cowboys rounds out the rushing list and is in 5th with 581 yards.

Tackling

Munich Cowboy LB Ryan Newell is back among the top tacklers in Germany. He led the GFL in tackles in 2013 and 2014 with the Cowboys and he leads again this year with 99 tackles. Michael Taylor of the 6-1 Marburg Mercenaries is 2nd with 91 total tackles while Jeremiah Maluia of the Cowboys is 3rd. Allgau Comets LB Niall Padden as usual is among the top five and is 4th with 82 tackles and Sasan Jelvani of the Saarland Hurricanes is 5th with 60.
