Turkey’s Koc Rams sign Swedish DB Nicholas Peterson

Turkish champions, the Koc Rams, have signed one of Sweden’s top defensive backs, Nicholas Peterson, for the 2018 season.

Peterson, 6’2″, 195 lb from Uppsala, Sweden is a product of the Uppsala 86ers football program. He debuted on the senior men’t team in 2012 and was nominated as Sweden’s Rookie of the Year. He has been a starter for the 86ers ever since and he was named defensive back of the year in Sweden in 2015. He was a key component in the 86ers trip to the Swedish final in 2016.

For the past two seasons, he has finished the year with the Wasa Royals in Finland helping the Royals advance to the Maple League in 2016 and reach the Maple Bowl (Finnish championship) in 2017. Peterson has also become a mainstay in the defensive backfield for the Swedish national team.

The Koc Rams have won the past two Turkish titles going undefeated both years. In fact, the Rams have remained undefeated in regular season play in Turkey for the past five seasons. The team has played in the IFAF Europe Champions League as well as the Central European Football League (CEFL) in 2017 and are slated to do so again in 2018.

American Football International asked Peterson how he found his way down to Turkey.

“Coach [John] Booker the HC of the Rams, coached the Royals in Finland last year when I played there, he’s a great guy and I liked his schemes so I joined him in Turkey. And the warm weather is a big plus too. Also, it gave me  the opportunity to play in the Central European Football League.”
