Germany’s Berlin Rebels sign top French defensive lineman Mamadou Sy

The Berlin Rebels have bolstered their defense with the signing of one of Europe’s premier defensive lineman, Mamadou Sy from France.

Sy was a key to the Thonon Black Panthers return to prominence in France in 2017 helping them reach the French final.  He was one of the top defensive linemen in the German League in 2015 and 2016 playing for the top team in Europe, the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions.

The 6’3″, 290 lb defensive end was an anchor in the Lions defense for two years helping them to back to back German titles and Eurobowl victories. In 2016 he recorded 48 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and nine sacks.

The 24 year old has starred on both the senior French national team and the U19 squad and in 2017 helped lead the senior team to their first ever victory over Germany in the World Games. A native of Paris, he played for the Berlin Adler in 2014 helping them win the Eurobowl title that year beating the New Yorker Lions in a thriller, 20-17. He moved to Braunschweig the following season.

The Berlin Adler reached the German Football League quarterfinals in 2017 where they lost a heartbreaker to the eventual champions, the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns.
