Raptors advance to Tazón México III, beat Dinos

Two touchdown passes by Bruno Márquez and three crucial defensive turnovers allowed the Raptors to defeat the Dinos 21-6 in the game for the Liga de Futbol Americano (LFA), North Division title and a berth in Tazón México III. next weekend.

The Raptors will play in the LFA championship game for the second time in three years. They participated in the inaugural Tazon Mexico two years ago, losing to the Mayas.

Although he was sacked twice, Márquez was outstanding, keeping his team in the game while the Raptors defense did not allow a touchdown.

Nevertheless, the Dinos took an early 3-0 lead on a 29 yard field goal by Óscar Silva.

However, a fumbled punt gave the Raptors the ball deep in Dinos territory midway through the second quarter and Márquez took advantage, finding Miguel Ángel Morgado (81) on a 26-yard pass with the extra point being scored by Fernando Ramírez.

With the lead 7-3 at halftime, the Dinos were again stymied in the third quarter and forced to kick another field goal, to inch closer, 7-6.

Another costly turnover by the Dinos, on a fumble, gave the Raptors the ball deep in the red zone and running back Dan Ávila made no mistake, carrying the ball in from the one. A successful two-point conversion extended the lead to 15-6

With less than two minutes left in the game, the Dinos looked to tie the game, but Raptors defensive back Javier Pérez (8) intercepted a Mata Charles pass.

Márquez wasted no time. On the next play, he threw a 61 yard touchdown pass to Ivan Garcia putting the game away.

The Raptors opponent will be the winner of Sunday’s game at Estadio “Palillo” Martínez between the Mayas and Mexicas.
