AFI’s Europe Top 20: Braunschweig Returns to #1, London Warriors Boosted by Victory Over Blitz

Week 5 of AFI’s Europe Top 20 presents the weekly ranking of the Top 20 best American football teams in Europe in 2015. Let’s review the moves! Many thanks as always to Jarle Magnus Henriksen from Norway’s Amerikansk Fotball for his invaluable input.

The Braunschweig New Yorker Lions have taken over the #1 spot on our list after their exciting  24-14 victory of the  Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns who are bumped down to #3. The Lions are getting back into their dominant play of 2014 with the return of Casey Therriault at quarterback. The Kiel Baltic Hurricanes climb into the #2 spot after their thrashing of Dusseldorf 64-10. Kiel’s quarterback Blake Bolles leads the German league in passing yardage.

The #4 Swarco Raiders were idle in preparation for the upcoming Austrian playoffs where they will face the Prague Black Panthers.

Sweden’s Carlstad Crusaders remain at #5  after they downed the the Orebro Black Knights 28-7 on the road in Orebro.

The Saint Ouen l’Aumône Cougars (#6) of France won the French championship in convincing fashion knocking off the defending champion #9 Thonon-les-bains Black Panthers 28-7

The Vienna Vikings (#7) finished the Austrian regular season off in style almost doubling the Prague Black Panthers 45-28. With the loss the Prague Black Panthers dropped to #15.

The Tyreso Royal Crowns #10 in Sweden dismantled the Stockholm Mean Machines 61-0

The London Warriors #11, switch spots with the London Blitz, #17after their decisive 37-10 over their bitter rivals in England.

The Prague Black Panthers (#15) dropped after their loss to the Vienna Vikings 45-28.

The Stuttgart Scorpions move up to #12 after thrashing the Munich Cowboys 43-0.

Poland’s Wroclaw Panthers stay at #14 after finishing their regular season undefeated at 10-0 averaging almost 50 points a game while allowing a mere 8 points a game. They also have one of the best running backs in Europe in Marcus Sims.

The Parma Panthers remain at #16 after they had no trouble disposing of the Bolzano Giants in the Italian semi-finals. The Milano Seamen also hold onto their #19 spot following their nail-biting last minute 25-20 victory over the Milano Rhinos.

Switzerland’s Calanda Broncos (#18) have totally distanced themselves from the rest of the teams in Switzerland after hammering the Zurich Renegades 42-22.

Finally, the Turku Trojans in Finland, with Robert Johnson at quarterback were idle but keep their #20 ranking.
