Austria announces September season start

The Austrian Federation of American Football, AFBÖ, has announced that there will be a shortened, four-team season in Austria starting in September.

The Swarco Raiders, Dacia Vienna Vikings, Ssang Yong Danube Dragons and Projekt Spielberg Graz Giants will play a six-week regular season, a playoff round and a championship final.

According to the AFBÖ, this is of course contingent upon the COVID-19 situation.

AFBÖ President Michael Eschlböck:

“I am delighted for our athletes and fans that there is now a green light for tackle football to be played. However, we must always be aware that the virus continues to exist and that a risk remains. All teams and participants have been instructed accordingly and are now accustomed to adhering to the appropriate risk minimization measures. The top teams are eager to finally be able to play after the unusually long practice time. I wish everyone every success and above all – good health.”
