Copenhagen Towers finish regular season in first, whip Triangle Razorbacks

The Copenhagen Towers secured first place overall in the Danish National Ligaen standings by beating the defending champion Triangle Razorbacks 42-13 in the final game of the regular season in Denmark.

This was Towers second win of the year over the Razorbacks and gave thenma 9-1 record to pull even with the Sollerod Gold Diggers. However, the Towers earn first by virtue of the points differential in the head to head meetings between the two. Sollerod won the first game 30-26, but the Towers took the second 48-18.

Copenhagen running back Dayton Winn scored two touchdowns while Aske Troen, Lasse Tor Hansen and Lau Mikkelsen added one each. Troen was good on two two-point conversions while Winn and Tor Hansen added one each.

Shazzon Mumphrey and Johan Bang Andersen scored touchdowns for the Razorbacks and Torben Jørgensen kicked on extra point.

Winn gave his team a 14-0 first quarter lead they would never relinquish as the Towers defense caused havoc for Triangle quarterback Peter Linnemann. Meanwhile, Copenhagen scored once more as Troen found the end zone. Mumphrey finally got the Razorbacks on the scoreboard with a touchdown just before the half.

With the score 28-6 heading into the third quarter, the Towers wasted no time as quarterback Kasper Skyun connected with Tor Hansen to extend the lead to 34-6.

With both teams substituting liberally, saving players for the upcoming playoffs, Skyum found Mikkelsen increasing the Copenhagen lead to 42-6 before Jørgensen plowed his way into the end zone for the final score of the game.

With the win, Copenhagen will await the winner of one of the two wild card games set for this coming weekend. The third place Razorbacks (6-4) will face the sixth place Herlev Rebels (3-7) in one playoff game. The other will feature the fourth place Aarhus Tigers (6-4) and the fifth place Aalborg 89ers (4-6).
