Costa Rica To Host 2017 IFAF Beach Flag World Championship

The International Federation of American Football has announced that Costa Rica will be the site of the first ever Beach Flag World Championship in 2017. Costa Rica was chosen after the IFAF Managing Committee had received applications from a number of potential host countries.

Beach flag football is a newcomer in official IFAF competitions. The plan is to hold a tournament in late October 2017, but the dates will be announced in due course.

Marco Cobar from the IFAF Managing Committee commented:

“We in IFAF are very proud about the decisions being made towards developing our sport, especially when they involve new modalities of football and affect new locations and regions. We are sure that having this event in Costa Rica will have a very strong and positive impact in the Central American Region. It will be proof that inclusion and globalization is the way to go.”

So far, beach flag football competitions were organized at the 2014 Asian Beach Games in Phuket, Thailand, and at the 2014 European Championship in Grosseto, Italy.
