LIVE STREAM: Denmark – Copenhagen Towers v. Triangle Razorbacks (2p CEST, 8a EDT)

The Copenhagen Towers will play host to the Triangle Razorbacks Sunday in a key matchup in Denmark’s National Ligaen at Gentofte Stadium in Copenhagen.

This is the first time the two teams have met since the Razorbacks defeated Copenhagen 22-18 to win the 2016 Mermaid Bowl, emblematic of  supremacy in American football in Denmark.

Both teams enter the game with identical 4-1 records. The only game either has lost was to the first place and unbeaten Søllerød Gold Diggers. The Towers dropped a close 30-26 decision to the Gold Diggers on the opening weekend of the season. Triangle had more trouble losing 34-0.

The Towers boast the best offense in Denmark, scoring 228 points in five games while the Razorbacks trail them with 140 points of offense. Both defenses have performed well with Copenhagen having a slight edge giving up 10.8 points per game and the Razorbacks 11.8.

The season has been difficult for both teams as they have suffered through a string of injuries, playing both in Denmark and in international tournaments.

Peter Herbild, head coach of the Towers, spoke to Peter Wagner of Nationalligaen.dk:

“It has been a difficult season for us. We have had many injuries, and it has been the European games that have caused more injuries than usual. The injuries have made it difficult to get on track and gain some continuity both at practice and during games.”

The game will no doubt go a long way in determining who will finish second and gain home field advantage in the playoffs. The two team face each other one more time in the final weekend of the regular season in September.

Sebastian Fandert, head coach of the Razorbacks:

“It’s an important match if we need a top 2 position, but we are far away from the final game. With all the injuries we have, we have to fight for every game. When we start getting some of the injured players back, our attitude will change, but right now we have too many injuries to focus on a place in the final game.”

The Razorbacks have a deadly combination of offense in quarterback Shazzon Mumphrey and wide receiver Oliver Holmlund. This will be Mumphrey’s third game as he is starting to get familiar with the offense.

Copenhagen counters with quarterback Patrick Hargett, running backs Dayton Winn and Michel Konate.

These two teams are so evenly matched, predicting a winner is not easy.
