Egypt: GUC Eagles win third consecutive Egyptian championship
The GUC Eagles capped an undefeated season in the Egyptian National Football League by defeating the MSA Tigers 27-6 to win Egyptian Bowl III for their third consecutive Egyptian title. In fact, the win gave the Eagles a perfect 17-0 record over the three seasons.
Eagles quarterback Omar Ebaed threw touchdown passes to receivers Hazem Shawkat and Louay Essam while running backs Triston McCathern and Youssef Salman scored one each.
Tigers quarterback Taylor Budd scored the lone touchdown in a losing cause.
The MSA Tigers entered the game with high hopes after an exciting playoff win against the Cairo Wolves and hungry for their first Egyptian championship title. But the experience of the Eagles was evident from the opening whistle.
The Eagles defense did not allow the Tigers to get untracked and had eight tackles for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles and nine deflections. Notable performers included defensive back Muhammad Anbar with one forced fumble and three deflections, and defensive lineman Ahmed Khaled with two tackles for loss, one sack and one forced fumble.
The Tigers defense had nine tackles for loss, three sacks, one forced fumble, three deflections and one interception. Notable performers included Mohamed Arabi with two tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks, and Abdelrahman Genina with three tackles for loss, one sack and one forced fumble.
The Egyptian Bowl MVP award went to the Eagles’ Triston McCathern who had 157 rushing yards (13 yards per carry) and one touchdown.
The game was followed by an awards ceremony attended by a representative from the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports. The representative praised the efforts done by the Egyptian Federation of American Football (EFAF) in promoting the sport among Egyptian athletes as well as organizing the different events for both men and women.
