French club loses everything to arson

The  Les Gones de Lyon American football club in Lyon, France have had their 2019 football season ruined before it has even started as a suspected arson fire ripped through their equipment container destroying everything.

The team, which had just qualified for play in the French second division, lost everything from helmets to pads and jerseys along with field painting and measuring equipment.

Equipment valued at $50,000 went up in smoke.

Although the preliminary police investigation is still underway, according to the club, arson appears to be the cause. Someone cut the padlocks off and set fire to the interior of the team’s storage container.

Needless to say, the fate of not only the upcoming season, but of the club itself is at stake. The team is appealing to the international football community for help.

They have lost full sets of helmets and shoulder pads along with 100 senior men’s jerseys (home and away), pants as well as jerseys and pants for the junior team as well.

If anyone can donate equipment or clothing, please click here to contact the club on their Facebook page.
