German Football League stats leaders as season reaches midpoint

The German Football League regular season has rolled through its 10th week of action and AFI takes a look at the passing, receiving, rushing and tackling leaders in Germany for the third time this season.

The Dresden Monarchs still have players leading two categories with WR Mitchel Paige remaining as the top receiver and LB AJ Wentland the leading tackler.

The Allgäu Comets lead all teams with 5 players among the top 5 in 4 categories. Following them with 4 is the Potsdam Royals. The Dresden Monarchs have a total of 3 players while the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes have 2. The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, Cologne Crocodiles, Ingolstadt Dukes, Hamburg Huskies, Marburg Mercenaries and Berlin Rebels all have one.

The notable absences are the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions and the Frankfurt Universe. who do not have a player on any of these lists, but  both teams have only played 6 games. Also without representation on the list are the Munich Cowboys, Hildesheim Invaders, Stuttgart Scorpions and Kirchdorf Wildcats.

Passing

Allgäu Comets QB Justin Sottilare, continues to lead all passers in yardage with 3,035 yards and a league-best 28 TDs. Sottilare has set a record for passing attempts in a game (84), and still leads the GFL in average yards per game by a comfortable margin with 433.6.  Trenton Norvell of the Dresden Monarchs holds on to 2nd after throwing for 334 yards against the New Yorker Lions He now has 2,365 yards and 25 TDs.  Austin Gahafer of the Potsdam Royals is now 3rd with 1,979 yards and 28 TDs after 7 games.The 2017 passing yards leader, Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns quarterback Marco Ehrenfried is 4th with 1,939 yards while Ingolstadt Dukes QB Nelson Hughes III has slid down to 5th having thrown for 1,895 yards.

Receiving

Mitchell Paige of the Dresden Monarchs continues to lead all receivers in Germany and has caught 72 passes for 1,133 yards and a league-leading 14 TDs. Allgäu Comets WR Jordan Paul is now 2nd with 850 yards while Potsdam Royals Danish WR Frederik Myrup Nielsen is still 3rd still with 776 yards. Martin Emos of the Comets has entered the list in 4th with 697 yards and teammate Féli Manoka is now 5th with 635 yards in 7 games.

Rushing

Cologne Crocodiles RB Shayeen Edwards remains the top rusher in the GFL with 752 yards and 8 TDs. Hamburg Huskies RB Colby Goodwyn has climbed all the way up to 2nd with 736 yards after rushing for 403 yards in the Huskies last 2 games against the Hildesheim Invaders and Potsdam Royals. Tyvis Smith of the Potsdam Royals is the 3rd leading rusher so far with 680 yards while Berlin Rebel’s Dutch RB Sean Richard is now 4th with 644 yards and 7 TDs  Khris Francis of the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes remains in 5th spot with 517 yards.

Tackling

AJ Wentland of the Dresden Monarchs is a tackling machine and with 22 (!) tackles last week again tops the GFL with a whopping 117 tackles in 8 games.He has had 3 games of 20+ tackles.  Kiel Baltic Hurricanes LB Thiadric Hansen takes over 2nd with 78 tackles while Neil Howey of the Marburg Mercenaries recorded 15 tackles in his team’s win over the Ingolstadt Dukes and has climbed up into 3rd with 71 tackles. Allgäu Comets LB Niall Padden has moved up into 5th with 64 as well.
