Germany: Cologne Crocodiles sign speedster Jake Isabel

The Cologne Crocodiles of the German Football League have signed speedy WR/DB Jacob (Jake) Isabel (Chapman University Panthers, NCAA Div. III) for the 2019 season.

The 5’9″, 180 lb Isabel from Pleasanton, California amassed 1,783 yards receiving and 17 touchdowns in his two years at Chapman. In his senior year, he earned his second All-SCIAC (Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) honor, as he recorded 1,050 receiving yards, setting the school record for most yards in a single season and becoming just the third Panther to have a 1,000 yard season. He also crushed the previous single season and career average yards per game records. The wide receiver led the SCIAC with 137.7 yards per game in SCIAC games while his nine receiving TDs in SCIAC games also led the conference. He averaged 99.1 yards per game in his two-year career as a Panther the most in school history, and he was the first receiver in Chapman history to haul in 10 TDs in a season. He capped an explosive offensive career with 11 100-yard games – the most of any player in Chapman history.

In 2018, he played in two games for the AFC Sonic Wall Mödling Rangers in the Austrian Football League, including a three-touchdown effort against the Swarco Raiders. He had a 98 yard kick return, as well as a rushing and a receiving touchdown. He also recorded an interception and a pass breakup.

Isabel’s speed (4.46 in the 40) and skills earned him workouts with the  Buffalo Bills, NY Jets, and Denver Broncos  and a tryout with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League.
