Germany’s Hamburg Huskies re-sign RB Colby Goodwyn

The Hamburg Huskies in the German Football League, have re-signed running back Colby Goodwyn for the 2018 season.

Goodwyn joined Hamburg for the final four games of the 2017 season and made his mark helping the team win all four while gaining 381 yards on 79 carries. The Huskies had gone winless until that point. He had previously played for the Cineplexx Blue Devils in the Austrian Football League where he started seven games and finished as the fourth leading rusher in the league, carrying the ball 133 times for  759 yards.

The 5’10”, 195 lb 26 year old native of Hampton, Virginia played for Old Dominion University (NCAA Div. I, Conference USA) where he finished his career with 1,583 yards rushing and 25 touchdowns while recording 570 yards in receptions.

American Football International caught up with Colby as he prepares for the upcoming season in Hamburg.

American Football International: Congrats on re-signing with Hamburg. What was the reason for returning?

Colby Goodwyn: Yes the team was 0-10 before I got to Hamburg prior from being in Austria playing with the Cineplex Blue Devils in the AFL. I left immediately for family issues and things with the Blue Devils club wasn’t working out like I thought it would be. So I was thankful for the opportunity to play in the GFL with the Huskies and finishing strong like we did last season made my decision that much easier to see how things would go with a full season in Hamburg. For me I’ve never been the guy to hop on the “bandwagon” I like to be someone to make a difference and help build a program up.

AFI: After a terrible start to the season, you won the final four games. With a “new” head coach in Anthony Rouzier, what do you expect?

Goodwyn: As far as Rouz being the head coach I expect to have fun first and for most because that’s the energy he gives off to us, but I’m sure it’s going to be exciting for Hamburg and the GFL as a whole of how things are going to turn around.

AFI: You have played in Europe for a few years. What has been the highlight so far?

Goodwyn: As far as being in Europe , I played for Warsaw Poland back in 2014 for a couple of games and 2015 I sat out and just trained and the year of 2016 I decided to try out arena football in the IFL for the Green Bay blizzards. 2017 I decided to come back overseas and it’s been a great experience as far as meeting new people and being able to travel easily.

AFI: Any favorite foods?

Goodwyn: lol I really don’t have much of a favorite food because I like to spend most of my time cooking.

AFI: What do you think of the development of football in Europe?

Goodwyn: As far as football in Europe it is growing tremendously and having motivated imports as far as coaches and players makes the sport grow more.
