Invitations Sent For 2016 IFAF Europe Champions League Tournament

On Thursday October 15, IFAF Europe sent out invitations to all 28 federations in Europe to invite teams to participate in the 2016 Champions League tournament. The deadline for teams to apply to play is November 15.

In 2015, the 12 team tournament featured seven national championship teams including the winner, the Carlstad Crusaders (Sweden) as well as Vukovi Belgrade (Serbia), the Thonon Black Panthers (France), the Milano Seamen (Italy), the Copenhagen Towers (Denmark),the Helsinki Roosters (Finland) and the Bogazici Sultans (Turkey). The remaining five either had finished second in their respective countries or had been close to it. In fact a total of 10 countries were represented.

Notably absent in both 2014 and 2015 were any teams from Germany, Austria (Hohenems Blue Devils played in 2014 but they were a Division 2 team) the Czech Republic, Holland, Ireland and Belgium.

The 2015 tournament saw the Carlstad Crusaders score 84 points in demolishing the Vukovi Belgrade 84-49 in Belgrade. Carlstad scored a total of 201 points in their four games proving why they are ranked among the top 10 teams in Europe.

The Helsinki Roosters from Finland won the 2014 Champions League tournament beating Vukovi Belgrade in a thrilling final 36-29. Indeed, Vukovi’s two consecutive final appearances has established them as one of the top teams in Europe.

Check with your federation

The invitations are not sent to the individual teams as it is up to each federation to pass on the information to the teams in their country. So if a team has not been notified, they should get in touch with their own federation.
