LIVESTREAM: 2018 IFAF European Championships – Team Denmark v. Team Great Britain, August 4, 11a (10a CEST, 4a EST)

Team Denmark and Team Great Britain square off Saturday, August 4 in the opening game of the day to decide fifth place in the 2018 IFAF European Championships at Vantaa, Finland.

This is the first time these two countries have ever faced each other in international play.

Denmark (0-2), who have only played in this tournament once before (2014), opened the tournament by losing to Austria 40-15 after only trailing 20-15 going into the fourth quarter. They then lost to Sweden 30-20.

Although the goal for Team Denmark was to be playing for the medals but now they have to settle for the fifth place game. They played in the same game four years ago, in the 2014 tournament when they lost to Team Sweden and finished in sixth place.

The Danes can go into placement game with their heads held high. They have played a entertaining football and shown that they belong among the elite countries in Europe.

According to Denmark’s head coach Lars Carlsen, will rebound after a couple of days digesting the loss to Sweden.

“Everybody was down because we knew we don’t get this kind of opportunity very often. Now we go into this game with a new determination.”

Great Britain (02) opened against Team Finland, losing 28-7 but keeping the Finns off the scoreboard in the second half. They then went on to lose to France 42-9 in their final group stage game

Both Finland’s and France’s defense were able to effectively neutralize Britain’s offense. Great Britain has yet to score an offensive touchdown so that is the key area that must be corrected on Saturday. The only points have come from kicking (Ian Jaqcuet has kicked 3 FGs and 1 PAT) and on an interception return by DB Josh Amis against Team Finland. Quarterback Patrick Daley and the rest of offense now have had time to refine the attacking game for couple days.

Following the loss to France, Team Great Britain head coach Michael Callan was sure that his team is going to give everything on the field on Saturday:

“Denmark is a well drilled team. We have seen them before. We go home tonight and pick up some scout in the morning so the coaches start working. On Saturday, we have to be physically prepared for Denmark and hopefully walk out from here with a W.”
