LIVESTREAM: Germany – Cologne Crocodiles #14 @Braunschweig New Yorker Lions #2, July 8, 3p (9a EST)

The 6-1 Braunschweig New Yorker Lions, Europe #2, will play host to the 5-2-1 Cologne Crocodiles, Europe #14, July 8 at Entracht Stadion in Braunschweig, Germany .

This is the last round of the German Football League before a four week break.

The Lions enter the game on a two-game winning streak after beating both the Dresden Monarchs and Potsdam Royals in comfortable fashion. Braunschweig were surprised by the Berlin Rebels in mid June, losing 24-21. Cologne, on the other hand, are coming off of two straight defeats, losing to the Rebels as well as Dresden.

Braunschweig has the highest scoring offense in Germany averaging 41 points a game, while their defense allows just 10.4 points a game, second best in the GFL. In the eight games they have played, the Crocodiles offense sits seventh in the country scoring on average just over 30 points a game. Defensively, they are not much better giving up 27.2 points a game.

Jadrian Clark of the Lions is one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the country having completed 112 of 186 passes for 1,618 yards and 22 touchdowns against only four interceptions. His favorite target is Justus Holtz who has 358 yards receiving while Christian Bollmann has 325 yards receiving on 21 receptions. In fact, Clark has completed passes to 13 different receivers so far this season.

Interestingly, the Lions have the top rushing offense in Germany with 1,170 yards in total team rushing but with only one player in the top 10, the injured Lennies McFerrren with his 412 yards.

The Braunschweig defense is anchored by linebackers Roni Salonen and Anthony Darkangelo as well as defensive backs Tim Unger, Tissi Robinson and Darius Robinson and sack leader Jakob Schridde. They allow an average of 55.4 yards against the run and 155 against the pass.

Cologne running back Shayeen Edwards remains the top rusher in the GFL with 786 yards and 8 TDs.  In other words, as Edwards goes, so goes the Crocodiles offense. Cologne quarterback Bradley Strauss is averaging 222.5 yards a game and has thrown 17 touchdown passes in eight games. However, he has only thrown three interceptions so far this year in 206 pass attempts.

Linebacker Tucker Stanley leads the Crocodiles defense with 67 tackles so far and has 10 tackles for loss and two sacks.

The key to this game may well be the ground game. Braunschweig and Cologne are among the top four rushing teams in the country.
