LIVESTREAM: Germany – Marburg Mercenaries @Allgäu Comets, August 5, 3p (9a EST)

The Marburg Mercenaries (5-3) head to Kempten, Germany to face the (5-4) Allgäu Comets in the first game for both teams after a four week break in the German Football League.

The Mercenaries will be facing an Allgäu team in apparent disarray following the departure of the entire coaching staff earlier this week. This leaves quarterback Justin Sottilare no doubt running the offense although  Hesham Khalifa is now listed as offensive coordinator. Sottilare is the leading quarterback in the GFL having thrown for 3,412 yards and 34 touchdowns. His receiving corps of Jordan Paul, Martin Emos, Jonatan Gihl and Féli Manoka are among the top 15 in Germany.

Marburg defeated the Comets 28-14 in mid June with running back Silas Nacita putting on an offensive display playing at quarterback after the sudden departure (he last one game) of “new” quarterback Robert Webber. Nacita then led Marburg to a win over the Ingolstadt Dukes and was also behind center in the final game before the break, a loss to the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns. However, for this game, Marburg will debut a new quarterback in Zac Cunha from Minot State University of North Dakota (Div II).  Cunha threw for a total of 8,222 yards and 52 touchdowns for Minot State in his career there.

Despite the uncertainty and turnover at the quarterback position, Marburg has the sixth leading passing offense in the league with the fourth best passing efficiency mark.

This game is impossible to predict. Will the Comets shrug off the distractions and come together as a team? Will Marburg respond to their new quarterback, their fourth this year?
