The two best teams in college football in Mexico  –  the ITESM Borregos Toluca, winners of the CONADEIP  title and the ONEFA champions the UNAM Pumas CU  – will go head to head Saturday to decide the 2017 Tazón de Campeones (Champions of Champions Bowl), Mexico’s super college championship game at the  ITESM Toluca field.

The Comisión Nacional Deportiva Estudiantil de Instituciones Privadas, A.C. (CONADEIP) (Private university league) and the  Organización Nacional Estudiantil de Futbol Americano (ONEFA – National Student Organization of American Football, mostly public university league) are the two college leagues in Mexico.

Borregos Toluca defeated the UDLAP Aztecas (Aztecas la Universidad de las Américas) 31-28 in the CONADEIP title game while the Pumas downed the Auténticos Tigres 18-15 to win the ONEFA championship.

Toluca lost only two games all season, both to the Aztecas in the regular season. The Pumas lost their opening game against the Aztecas but went undefeated after that.

In 2016, the UDLAP (Universidad de las Américas Puebla) Aztecas from the CONADEIP defeated the ONEFA’s UANL (Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León) Auténticos Tigres 34-27.
