The Bialystok Lowlanders head into the unfriendly confines of the Olympic Stadium in Wroclaw, Poland Saturday, March 17 to face the defending and back-to-back Polish champions, the Wroclaw Panthers in one of the opening games of the new Liga Futbolu Amerykańskiego (League of American Football) in Poland.

In the only game between these two teams in 2017, the Panthers came out on top 41-21.

Panthers head coach Nick Johansen, in his fourth year with the club, has built a powerhouse of a team winning the last two Polish championships and pushing Austria’s Swarco Raiders to the limits in a Central European Football League game in 2017. He also led the Panthers to the Champions League crown in 2016. 

Returning at quarterback for Wroclaw this season is Tim Morovick who was both the league MVP and championship finals MVP in 2017. Joining the club on the defensive side is defensive back Desmond Cooper who played for the Sollerod Gold Diggers in 2017 after spending time with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Lowlanders have re-signed head coach John Harper  who has fashioned an impressive coaching record of his own in Europe. He has guided, or helped to guide, 11 different teams in five different countries to highly successful records not to mention championships. He has an amazing won-loss record and as an assistant or head coach he has won the European championship twice, the Champions league title once, the Italian championship, the Austrian division 1 championship, the Central European Football League championship and the Serbian championship twice. He has laid the foundation for the success of several teams including Turkey’s Koc Rams and Serbia’s SBB Vukovi Belgrade.

At quarterback, the Lowlanders have signed Ryan Kasdorf, who played for the Ancona Dolphins in Italy and who was one of the top five passers in the league in 2017.

The weather could be a factor with temperatures just below zero and snow forecast for kickoff so the running games of both teams may be a key.
