Mexico City Condors sign Europe veteran WR Preston Bailey

The CDMX Condors of Mexico City who play in the Liga de Futbol Americano Profesional, the only professional American football league in Mexico, have signed wide receiver Preston Bailey for the 2018 season.

The Condors finished the 2017 season with a 2-5 record.

Bailey, a 6’2″, 196 lb native of Spartenburg, South Carolina spent the 2016/17 season with the Algarve Sharks of the Portuguese American Football League but played and coached with the Europe Warriors in 2017. The Warriors played a game against the UNAM Pumas in Mexico, losing in a narrow 35-32 defeat to one of Mexico’s top college teams. He also served as the wide receivers coach for the U19 Europe Warriors that played in the Aztec Bowl in December.

Bailey spent the 2015 season with the Lubeck Cougars of Germany’s GFL2 helping the team to an undefeated season.  He recorded 1,028 yards receiving with 17 touchdowns (2nd in GFL2) on 81 receptions. He also played 10 games on defense recording 62 tackles, two interceptions including a pick six.

A standout wide receiver at Alderson-Broaddus University (NCAA Div. II) in Philippi, West Virginia, Bailey was a Capital One Academic All American in 2013 and was picked to play in the National Bowl in 2014.

The Condors play in the six-team LFA which kicks off its 2018 season in February. The league is fully professional and allows two imports per team.

Needless to say, Bailey credits the Europe Warriors:

“All credit is due to the Europe Warriors. I came and played with them in August against the Pumas and was blessed enough to have some success. That put me on their radar and then I came to Mexico City as the WR coach for the U19 Europe Warriors in December. During that visit I met their staff. Luis Redarte and Irving Alamilla were my teammates in August and they are currently on the Condors roster as well. With their blessings along with a few others they invited me down.”

According to Preston, the level of football in the LFA is very good:

“The level here is extremely high. I have no doubt it would be able to compete against the top teams in Europe.”

Bailey is grateful to the Europe Warriors for his opportunity:

I would like to thank Bart Iaccarino, the AD for the Europe Warriors as well as Jesus Sanchez as the head coach for the team. And I am extremely grateful to the Condors and their head coach Felix Buendia for coming to meet me in Charlotte, North Carolina before signing me. That was extremely impressive. They are housing me in the Olympic training facility in Mexico City which is 5 star environment. And an athlete’s dream in terms of quality staff and facilities. I feel truly blessed with this opportunity and hope that the LFA is a launching point to catch further eyes in North America.”
