Novi Sad GAT Dukes trounce SBB Vukovi Belgrade to reach Serbian final

In what was supposed to be a tight battle in the 2017 Serbian American Football league semifinals, the Novi Sad GAT Dukes blew away SBB Vukovi Belgrade to advance the the championship final.

The last time Novi Sad advanced to the final was 2015 when they defeated Vukovi in a thriller.

When the two teams faced each other during the regular season, Vukovi came away with a 28-23 win. This game was supposed to be equally close.

Someone forgot to tell the Dukes. They changed the script.

Running back Jermichael Selders scored three touchdowns to pace the Dukes while Cornelius Botha added another rushing touchdown and Nemanja Vučković returned an interception for a touchdown.

Nikol Simovic scored Vukovi’s lone touchdown on a pass from on a touchdown pass from Vojin Milic.

From the opening whistle, Vukovi did not have an answer for the running of Selders who scored on the first drive of the game. In fact, Novi Sad roared out to a 27-0 lead in the second quarter before Milic, who replaced starting Vukovi quarterback Lewis Kindle who was injured, found Simovic for Vukovi’s only score.

Then Selders scored again, still in the first half and Novi Sad held a 33-7 lead at the break.

And that is how the game would finish as neither team could move the ball much in the final two quarters.

So for the first time in the history of the Serbian American Football league, the championship will be played without SBB Vukovi.

The Dukes now move on to face the Kragujevac Wild Boars in Serbian Bowl XIII in two weeks.
