Portugal: Porto Mutts flex offensive muscles in blanking Braga Black Knights

The Porto Mutts remain unbeaten in the Portuguese League of American Football (LPFA) by easily downing the Braga Black Knights 48-0 in the third weekend of play in Portugal.

Quarterback Brian Lopes threw four touchdown passes and rushed for another. Receivers Cristopher Miranda and Ricardo Alves scored a pair of touchdowns apiece. Running back John “Train” Marques and defensive back Nelson Ferreira also added touchdowns.

The Mutts ran out to a 27-0 halftime lead behind an offense that displayed its firepower from the first series. Lopes connected with Miranda early in the first quarter and then found Alves for the second score, still in the first. Ferreira then pounded the ball in to open the second quarter while Lopes thew another touchdown strike to Miranda to head into the break with a comfortable lead.

The onslaught continued in the third quarter with Alves scoring again to extend the lead to 33-0.

Lopes called his own number to start the fourth quarter and then Marques scored the final touchdown of the game midway through the quarter.

With the win, the Mutts have a 2-0 record and sit second in the North division behind the 3-0 Portuscale Dragons.Their next opponent will be the Cascais Crusaders (1-1), on December 3, at Viso, in Porto.

Meanwhile, the Braga Black Knights fall to the last place in the North with a record of 0-2. The Knights will attempt ti improve their record on December 2, when they host crosstown rivals the Braga Warriors in a Braga derby at Campo Mata da Ordem in Braga
