RIP Thomi Günter 1958-2018

Our deepest condolences go out to the Swiss-American football community and the family of Thomi Günter who died suddenly last week.

A former vice president of the Swiss American Football Federation, SAFV and president of the eight-time champion Calanda Broncos, Günter had been a driving force in the growth and development of American football in Switzerland over the last 40 years.

Condolences have poured in from all over Europe at the sudden loss of such a key figure in football, not only in Switzerland but also the region.

Barbara Allaria, Italian Federation of American Football:

“FIDAF’s and my personal condolences to Thomi’s  family and to SAFV. May his soul rest in peace.”

Current president of the SAFV, Glenn Chase:

“Our condolences to the entire Günter family, no words can express our sympathies nor our sorrows.

The essence of enthusiasm, dedication, devotion and the spirit of success shined in every aspect of Thomi’s American football life, including being a player for the Calanda Broncos, coaching fellow players to improve their level of play and as Vice President on SAFV’s executive board. Throughout his football life, Thomi was instrumental in forming policy and direction, helping others to evolve into team players and continuously helping to form American football (and our league) into what it presently has evolved into.

Thomi Günter was a dedicated and trustful soul whose mission to play and whose policy to promote and sustain American football in Switzerland are still in practice as of today. His laugh, pleasant demeanor and sincerity as a human being will be deeply missed by all. SAFV has been privileged to be associated with Thomi Günter and are thankful to have the honor of being football family forevermore.

Rest in peace Thomi, God bless.”
