Swarco Raiders Dominate Vienna in Austria

The Swarco Raiders left no doubt on the weekend that they are serious about repeating as Austrian champions. In front of 3,000 Vienna fans, Swarco dominated the Vikings  en route to an emphatic 30-7 victory.

The Raiders were rebounding from their first loss of the season last week to the Graz Giants. According to the Raiders website this was a monumental win as it was Swarco’s first ever victory over Vienna in regular season play. And it was so dominating that Vienna did not get on the scoreboard until just over a minute was left in the game.

Receiver/kicker Clemens Erlsbacher scored a touchdown, kicked three PATs and three field goals to lead the Raiders. With starting running back Sandro Platzgummer out with an injury, Tobias Bonatti took his place and rushed 15 times for 97 yards. Defensive lineman Jermaine Guynn made his debut as a running back and scored two touchdowns. Quarterback Sean Shelton completed 16 of 31 passes for 228 yards and a touchdown. He also had four rushes for 33 yards.

Vincent Müller picked off Vikings quarterback Alexander Thury twice as Vienna could not get their offense in gear.

Needless to say, Raiders head coach Shuan Fatah was pleased with his team:

“After the narrow defeat to Graz we needed to show who we are. We wanted to make a statement. We succeeded in doing that. We have trained hard and despite some missing players we controlled the game for long stretches.”
