Top NCAA Linebacker Zachary Blair Headed To Ancona Dolphins In Italy

Italy’s Ancona Dolphins are gearing up for the 2017 season and have signed linebacker Zachary Blair, NCAA career tackles for loss record holder.

Blair, a 6’2″, 220 lb native of Front Royal, Virginia, enjoyed a stellar career at UVA-WISE (NCAA Div. II) where he set the NCAA career record for tackles for loss. He was named  Virginia’s small college Linebacker of the Year in 2016 after amassing 87 tackles in 11 games. He also won the award in 2015.

American Football International asked Zach about his move to Italy and the Dolphins.

American Football International: How did you come to sign with Ancona?

Zach Blair: I had talked to a Dolphins recruiter after my season ended and sent him my highlight film. Things just ended up working out and I was able to sign with them.

AFI: Did you know about American football in Italy or Europe before this?

Blair: I had heard about football in Europe but never really any specifics. I wasn’t sure if they followed the exact same rules as they do in America or exactly when they played.

AFI: What are you most looking forward to for your 2017 season?

Blair: Honestly I’m just looking forward to getting back on the field. I lost my last college game and it’s left a very sour taste in my mouth. Getting a chance to play at the next level is an honor no matter where you are, so I look forward to getting my opportunity.

AFI: What do you think you will bring to the Ancona Dolphins in 2017?

Blair: As far as what I bring personally, I would say play making ability. A game changer on defense. Someone who can make the big plays when they are needed. Whether that’s forced fumbles, tackles for loss, or interceptions. I also look forward to getting a chance to help my teammates in any way I can. On or off the field, game preparation, or just the energy I can bring to the pregame atmosphere. I just cannot wait.
