Top teams from Russia, Belarus and the Ukraine announce new Super League

According to sources, there is a new Super League is in the works involving top teams from Russia, Belarus and the Ukraine.

Following the second season of the Monte Clark Cup (an international tournament with teams from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania and Estonia) and the first year of the Continental Football League (Russia and Belarus), it was obvious there was interest in a major international tournament/league for Eastern European teams. Since then, major teams from Russia, Belarus and the Ukraine have stated they will participate in a new league. This list includes the Moscow Spartans (Russian champions), St.Petersburg Griffins, St.Petersburg North Legion (all from Russia), Kiev Patriots, Kiev Capitals (Ukraine) and the Minsk Litwins (Belarus). The Minsk Zubrs have announced their interest but have not yet submitted their final confirmation.

Full details (official name, schedule, competing teams, management ) of the new league will be announced in the middle of November but all the key points have already been determined:

1. The tournament will be closed to new teams outside of the list of the original teams and will be considered as the primary league of competition for participating teams. The only team that hasn’t confirmed its participation yet is the Minsk Zubrs (Belarus).

2. The tournament will start in April and will end in July. Each team will play six regular season games and up to two post season games (semi-final and final).

3. Games between Russian and Ukrainian teams will be hosted on a neutral site in Minsk, Belarus. The championship final will be held in Minsk as well.

Teams from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus have a long history of competing in international tournaments: the Eastern-European Football League, League of American Football, Monte-Clark Cup and Continental Football League — but this is the first attempt to unite almost all the top teams from these nations in one scheduled league.
