Week 4 round up in Mexican college leagues

Mexico’s ONEFA –  Organización Nacional Estudiantil de Futbol Americano (National Student Organization of American Football) and  CONADEIP, Comisión Nacional Deportiva Estudiantil de Instituciones Privadas, A.C. (private university league),  have both played almost half the season.

The ONEFA is the a league in Mexico made up of most of the public university American football teams in the nation while the CONADEIP is a scholarship league.

Th ONEFA is composed of 23 teams divided between the Green and White and Red conferences, each with its own champion, the Green conference is the highest level, the green and White conference have inter-conference games. The CONADEIP has 11 teams in two conferences, the Libertado and the Independence.

Auténticos Tigres UANL 27 – Aguilas Blancas 24

A 58 yard field goal attempt with less than five seconds on the game clock to tie the game fell short and the Aguilas Blancas IPN suffered their first setback of the year as they were defeated  by the UANL Tigers by a final score of 27-24.

While all the predictions indicated that the Aguilas would return home with a lopsided loss against the Tigres, the Aguilas demonstrated to the runners-up of the ONEFA, that their level of play has improved and thanks to this at times they looked like possible winners in the game. Both teams are now tied in the standings with a record of 2-1.

Potros Salvajes UAEM 27 – Pumas Acatlán UNAM 18

The campus Acatlan of the UNAM, hosted a double header, when both UNAM teams  were in action in Acatlan.  In the first game of the double billboard, the Pumas Acatlan hosted Potros Salvajes of the UAEM, who left with a 27 -18 victory over the Pumas.

Pumas CU UNAM 26 – Águilas UACH 10

In the second game of the day, the Pumas arrived as the heavy favorites and looked the part in the first half taking a 12-0 lead, but for the third period the visitors managed to get closer on the board with a touchdown and field goal to close the gap to 12 -10. The Pumas responded in the final quarter though with two more touchdowns to pull away with the solid 26-10 win.


Next week the Pumas CU will face Toros de Chapingo in the second inter-conference day of the 2018 season. The UACH Águilas have only managed to win one game on the year and now the future looks highly complicated for the team.

Burros Blancos IPN 28 – Linces UVM Mexico 3

With two rushing touchdowns from running Jesus Sosa Piña (21), plus one rushing touchdown and another passing touchdown from rookie quarterback Luis Enrique García (7), the Burros Blancos of the IPN recorded their third victory of the year, beating the Linces UVM Mexico. 28- 3.

Lobos UAdeC 21 – Toros Salvajes UACh 0

Showing a strong defense, the Lobos recorded their second straight win downing the Toros Salvajes of UACH by a score of 21-0.

Correcaminos UAT Victoria 31 – Centinelas CGP 18

Coming from behind, the Correcaminos UAT Victoria got their fourth victory in the season. The Correcaminos team from Ciudad Victoria has one foot in the Red Conference playoffs after staying unbeaten in the fourth week, after defeating the Centinelas de Guardias Presidenciales 31-18.

Lobos BUAP 35 – Tlahuicas SM 20

Correcaminos UAT Reynosa 30 –  Leones Negros UD 15

Tlahuicas SM accumulated their third consecutive defeat, after losing 20-35 against the Lobos BUAP. In other results of the Red Conference, Leones Negros UDG lost 15-30 to UAT Reynosa Correcaminos.

CONADEIP

This past weekend, the fourth week of the 2018 season of the CONADEIP wound up, where the game between the Potros of ITSON and the Zorroa of CETYS Mexicali stood out the most.

Borregos Toluca 50 – Cimarrones UABC 0

The action began in the Congeladora, where the defending champions, the Borregos Toluca played host to the Cimarrones of the UABC (1-3), in a match where the Toluca team demonstrated they will be contenders again this season by winning easily, 50- 0

Aztecas UDLAP 71 – Zorros CETYS Tijuana 0

At the same time, but in Cholula, the Aztecs of the UDLAP (2-1) faced the Osos of CETYS Tijuana (0-3), in a duel that was as one-sided as it could be as the green squad, one of the most dominant programs in the CONADEIP powered their way to a 71-0 victory.

Zorros CETYS Mexicali 24 – Potros ITSON 13

The ITSON Potros (0-3) hosted a visit from the CETYS Mexicali Zorros (1-2),and both teams engaged in a defensive duel. However, the visitors impressed taking home a 24-13 win.
