LIVESTREAM: IFAF 2019 Women’s EC: Team Finland vs Team Austria, Monday, Aug. 12, 3p GMT (4p CEDT, 10a EDT)

Defending champions, Team Finland, open against Austria in the IFAF 2019 Women’s European Championships Monday, August 12 at John Charles Stadium in Leeds, England.

The last time these two teams met was at the 2015 European Championships when Finland ran over the Austrians, 52-7.

Finland went on to win the 2015 tournament, beating Great Britain 50-12 in the gold medal game.

Team Austria finished fourth at the 2015 European Championships, losing to Germany in the bronze medal game.

Austrian head coach Cameron Frickey’s (Frickey also coaches the Austrian champion Dacia Vienna Vikings) squad has added a number of new players who have meshed well with the veterans of the roster they fielded in 2015. The 45 player roster features 20 members of the Vikings, including quarterback Cornelia Pripfl who will likely start today.

Team Finland has beaten Austria handily both at the 2010 World Championships and the 2015 European championship tournament when they won 52-7. Although that kind of lopsided score is not expected in this game, the Finns have to be the favorites. Head coach  Mika Eloranta will start Emilia Hartikainen at quarterback and Mari Jääskelä and Tytti Kuusinen (who played for Finland in 2017 World Championships) at running back.
