ELF: Stuttgart Surge sign Former CFL RB Asnnel Robo

The Stuttgart Surge of the European League of Football have signed former CFL running back Asnnel Robo. The international talent joins a Surge team that has been putting together an impressive off-season so far as new head coach Jordan Neuman hopes to turn the Surge into a winner.

Robo is excited for the challenge ahead:

‘I am looking forward to playing for the Stuttgart Surge in the European League of Football in 2023! During my time in Canada, I always had an eye on how American football grew in Europe and I just want to be a part of it!’

The 5’7, 217 pound tailback has spent the last three seasons playing for three different teams in the Canadian Football League. In 2021, he appeared in 12 games for the Toronto Argonauts making three tackles on special teams. In 2019, he made three appearances for the Calgary Stampeders. The 29-year-old was drafted third overall in the first CFL Global Draft by the Montreal Alouettes in 2019.

The Global player did see some action in the pre-season accumulating 19 rushing yards and making one catch for 10 yards in two games for the Alouettes.

Born in CayenneFrench Guiana, Robo moved to the south of France in his childhood. The future CFL pro’s first sport was soccer, but eventually found his way to the gridiron at the age of 18 in Marseille.

In 2015, the speedy tailback began his collegiate career with the Quebec powerhouse, the University of Montreal. Over a four-year career for the Carabins, he had 677 rushing yards and six touchdowns, including 145 rushing yards in a single game against Concordia in his senior year.

In his final season with the Carabins, he had 56 carries for 484 yards and four touchdowns in six games and his 8.6 yards-per-carry average was the highest in the Quebec conference. Robo also had 12 catches for 157 yards.

Robo comes as the latest signing in what has already been a busy off-season for the Surge. Coach Jordan Neuman now brings a talented back to an offense that already has quarterback Reilly Hennessey, and receivers Yannik Mayr, Aurieus Minton, and Louis Geyer.
