The third International Federation of American Football continental flag football tournament of 2023 is about to get underway.
A total of twenty teams from eleven nations will be in action starting this Friday, October 27, in Kuala Lumpur as Malaysia hosts the first-ever IFAF Asia Oceania Flag Football Championships at the EV Arena Shah Alam.
The opening game between Malaysia and New Zealand in the women’s competition begins at 9.30am local time (3.30am CET / 9.30pm US ET on Thursday) with four fields hosting games simultaneously at time slots of 9.30am, 11.15am, 2.30pm, 4.15pm and 6pm.

The first men’s game being streamed from the showpiece field pits Korea against New Zealand at 11.15am, followed by a women’s matchup between Japan and Indonesia at 2.30pm. Japan’s men are in the spotlight against India at 4.15pm, then the day’s final streamed game among a total of 20 being played on the opening day sees the Philippines women take on India.
The group stages continue at 8am on Saturday with 21 games in total and the second day ends with the first two quarter finals in the women’s competition. Sunday’s knockout bracket begins at 8am, with a place in the Gold Medal games at 3.45pm (women) and 5.30pm (men) the ultimate goal.
In the women’s competition, Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea and Thailand make up Group A, while India, Malaysia, New Zealand and Philippines meet in Group B.
Australia, India, Japan, Kuwait, Philippines and Singapore have been drawn in Group A in the men’s tournament. Group B features Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Republic of Korea and Thailand.
An unprecedented total of 65 teams from 37 nations committed to the biggest ever international cycle of flag football competition this year to determine which teams will travel to Lahti, Finland, for the 2024 IFAF Flag Football World Championships. The United States triumphed on home soil over Mexico in both the men’s and women’s competitions in the Americas tournament. In Europe, Great Britain’s women beat Spain in the Gold Medal Game, while Germany’s men were crowned champions by beating Austria.
