Kansas City Chiefs take on Miami Dolphins in Battle of Division Leaders in Frankfurt

On Sunday the National Football League will stage their second-ever game in Germany and first game in the city of Frankfurt

The expected huge German crowd will be treated to an outstanding matchup, as the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs face the Miami Dolphins in a battle of two of the league’s top teams.

The Chiefs do not need much of an introduction, as they have been the premier team in the NFL over the past five seasons.  The reigning champions have looked strong yet again, jumping out to a 6-2 start.  However, they slipped up last week on the road against the Denver Broncos, losing 24-9 in a puzzling game.  They will look to get back on track this week across the pond, but they will have a strong opponent in their way.

Like Kansas City, the Miami Dolphins currently sit at 6-2 and lead their division.  Their electric offense has been one of the stories of the season so far, as they have been lighting up the scoreboard in nearly every game.  Most notably, they scored a whopping 70 points against the Broncos in week 3.  Though their record may be great, there are still some concerns as to whether they are truly an elite team.  All six of their wins have come against teams that have losing records, while their two losses came against two great teams in the Bills and Eagles.  Now, they have another matchup against one of the league’s best teams, so this will be a great opportunity for them to prove they are a Super Bowl contender.

This game will also be the first time that Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill meets his former team.  Through eight games this season, Hill has 61 catches for 1,014 yards and eight touchdowns.  These stats are out-of-this-world, as he has been the first receiver in over 50 years to reach 1,000 yards in his team’s first eight games.  Before being traded to Miami prior to the 2022 season, Hill spent the first six seasons of his career in Kansas City, including four seasons with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Since arriving in Miami, Hill has proven that he is an elite receiver no matter who is throwing him the ball, as he and Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa have formed an outstanding connection in South Beach.

The Chiefs are making their third appearance outside of the United States, while this will be Miami’s fifth game overseas.  This will be the first of two games in Frankfurt in 2023, as the Indianapolis Colts face the New England Patriots there next week.

Still, this week’s game is clearly the prime matchup, and it is among the best games of the entire season and could even be a potential playoff matchup.  With stars like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, and Jaylen Waddle all on the same field, the fans in Frankfurt could be treated to a high-scoring affair.
