Carlstad Crusaders dominate Bristol Aztecs to clinch CEFL semifinal berth

The Carlstad Crusaders advanced to the Central European Football League (CEFL) semifinals with a commanding 35–0 shutout of the Bristol Aztecs at Sola Arena, showcasing a suffocating defense and explosive offense that amassed 475 total yards.

Defensive dominance sets tone
From the opening drive, the Crusaders’ defense overwhelmed Bristol, allowing just 43 total yards and six first downs—two via penalties. Relentless pressure forced repeated three-and-outs, while linebacker Mattias Eriksson (game MVP) anchored a unit that has surrendered only two touchdowns all season. “We executed our assignments and never let them breathe,” said a Carlstad assistant postgame.

Jarman orchestrates offensive onslaught
Quarterback Slade Jarman starred, throwing for 317 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for another two. His 21-yard strike to Matteo Mozzanica opened scoring, followed by a short TD plunge and a precision pass to Jacob Bergwall for a 21–0 halftime lead. After an end-zone interception halted a second-quarter drive, Jarman rebounded in the second half, connecting with Anton Jansson for a 35-yard score and setting up wide receiver Albin Forsman’s receiving showcase.

Forsman’s return ignites aerial attack
Forsman, playing his first full game this season, torched Bristol’s secondary with six receptions for 149 yards, including a 50-yard deep ball that set up Jarman’s third rushing TD. Christopher Helgar’s flawless kicking (5/5 PATs) sealed the rout.

Aztecs’ struggles compound
Bristol, limited to 1.0 yard per play, found no answers. MVP Andrew James Carr fought valiantly but faced constant pressure, while the ground game mustered just 14 yards. The Aztecs’ lone red-zone chance ended with a turnover on downs.

Semifinals on the horizon
The Crusaders now await their May 31 semifinal opponent, likely a top-ranked European team. First, they shift focus to the Swedish Superserien, hosting rivals Örebro on May 17. For Bristol, the loss ends their CEFL campaign, though pride remains in reaching the quarterfinals.
