Örebro Black Knights LB Edvin Jönsson joins ELF’s undefeated Nordic Storm

Örebro Black Knights linebacker Edvin Jönsson has signed with the Nordic Storm of the European League of Football (ELF), joining the Copenhagen-based team after Örebro’s exit from the Swedish Superserien playoffs. The move pairs Jönsson with the Storm, who are undefeated (6-0) in their inaugural ELF season.
Jönsson’s dominant Superserien campaign
Jönsson solidified himself as one of Sweden’s top defenders in 2025, ranking third in tackles (53) and first in tackles for loss (13.5) during the regular season. His 6.5 sacks also tied for third in the league, complemented by dual-threat contributions as a kicker, where he ranked among Superserien leaders in field goals, PATs, and scoring.
Coach praises elite work ethic
Örebro head coach Branko Mutic lauded Jönsson’s departure: “He deserves to compete at the highest level. His work ethic and passion for football brought him this opportunity with one of the ELF’s better teams.” Mutic previously labeled him “Sweden’s best linebacker” and a league MVP candidate.
Jönsson eyes European stage
“It’s an honor and a ‘dream come true’ to represent Scandinavia in Europe,” Jönsson said. He joins Nordic Storm teammates Hugo Dyrendahl and Edvin Almeida, alongside former Örebro coach Sam Eisenstadt, easing his transition.
Storm’s historic season continues
The Storm’s 6-0 start includes dominant defensive performances, making Jönsson’s arrival timely. “Winning is the priority—I’ll help however needed,” he emphasized. The linebacker’s versatility and pass-rush prowess align with the team’s title ambitions.
Next challenge: Rhein Fire
Jönsson’s debut could come July 13 when Nordic Storm host Rhein Fire at Gladsaxe Stadion in Copenhagen. The matchup tests the Storm’s perfect record against one of the ELF’s storied franchises.
