Aaron Adriaan Ellis new QB for Denmark’s Søllerød Gold Diggers

Denmark’s Søllerød Gold Diggers have announced the signing of quarterback Aaron Adriaan Ellis for the 2021 season.

The 6’3″, 215 pound, 25 year old Ellis, a native of Valparaiso, Indiana, had signed to play for the Ostrava Steelers in the Czech Republic but the COVID-19 pandemic prevented it. He spent the 2019 season with the Frederikssund Oaks in Denmark. Although the team was forced to withdraw from the Danish National League after five games that year due to a lack of players, Ellis threw for 1,300 yards and 12 touchdowns (four interceptions) while rushing for another 487 yards.

In college, Ellis played for the University of Saint Francis Fighting Saints (NAIA) in Joliet, Illinois where over two seasons he completed 153 of 283 passes for 2,380 yards and 27 touchdowns.

In the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season in Denmark, the Gold Diggers finished with a 3-1 record and were scheduled to face the Aalborg 89ers in the semifinals before the playoffs and Danish championship game were cancelled abruptly due to new, tighter restrictions arising from the spread of the coronavirus in mid September in Denmark.

Ellis is naturally grateful for the chance to play again:

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to work with a great coaching staff and team in the Gold Diggers. I’m all in on the 2021 season.”

Gold Diggers General Manager Casper Reinhardt:

“We’re excited to sign Aaron, who’ve been on our radar ever since we first saw him play in Denmark. Aaron is a very talented player and coach who’s also going to help our junior program, and he brings leadership and competitiveness to our young group of talented players. We’re very excited to see him in black and gold in 2021.”
