Are the Chiefs Ready for a Super Bowl Run in 2026?

It’s been a whole two years since the Chiefs last won the Super Bowl, and for Chiefs fans country-wide, that’s far too long a wait.

There’s a bit of tongue-in-cheek there, sure, but actually, Chiefs fans could be forgiven for drumming their fingers impatiently during the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons.

The Chiefs are one of the best teams in the competition, filled with talent, potential, and star power – so is it really arrogant to believe they should be winning the trophy every year?

Is The Chiefs’ Potential Untapped?

Looking at the 2025 Super Bowl, most of the American football odds favored Kansas City, making them around a 1.5 favorite on the spread.

This was indicative of the Chiefs’ form during the season, with their consistent offensive firepower – along with the leadership of key players like Patrick Mahomes – making them a threat to even the most formidable of opponents.

They lost that game, however, and in the 2025/26 season, they slipped further – with notable sweeps by the Chargers and Broncos for the first time since 2013 and 2014 respectively.

Was the season marred by injuries and close losses? Yes. But that doesn’t change the fact that the Chiefs missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014 and finished with a losing record for the first time since 2012.

Both years are concerning, however. They made it to the Super Bowl in 2025, but having lived with the pressure and performed a year prior, it’s a disappointment that they couldn’t replicate the feat. In the next season, more blows were dealt to the team, and again, even though they were dealing with injuries and were unlucky on more than one occasion, it’s a disappointment that they didn’t have the internal resilience to find a way through.

Is a Super Bowl Run Possible in 2026?

What we’re left with is a team full of potential that has had a tough two years – both for different reasons. So you might be asking: how could any Chiefs fan expect another Super Bowl run in 2026?

Well, as we mentioned before, the Chiefs have the talent and depth to be genuine contenders year-on-year. Just because they’ve just had a rough season, precipitated by  a disappointing Super Bowl defeat, that doesn’t mean they’re suddenly out of the running.

Indeed, Andy Reid is one of the most successful NFL coaches of the modern era, having already led the Chiefs to multiple Super Bowl appearances and victories. His offensive mindset and leadership have been central to the Chiefs’ sustained success, and with players like Mahomes, Bolton, and Jones leading the pack on the field, there’s every chance they can turn around their fortunes.

If there’s a more appropriate time to do it: it’s now. The 2026/27 season is going to be dictated by the return of key players from injury, complete with a defense that has had an entire offseason to regroup and adjust. It’s also worth noting that other formidable teams are vulnerable, with the Eagles, specifically, having experienced offseason moves and roster restructuring that have left questions at key positions.

With all of this in mind, there’s a good chance that the Chiefs are not only ready for a Super Bowl run this year, but have an edge to make this run a success.
