Austria: Vikings, Raiders QBs top passing stats after 4 weeks of play

As the Austrian Football League approaches midseason, it is no surprise that the two top quarterbacks in the league are from the two top teams, the Swarco Raiders and the Dacia Vienna Vikings.

However, the other leaders in each category play for teams battling for playoff spots or survival and are also keys to their teams.

Passing

Vikings quarterback Kevin Burke, Team USA gold medal winning QB from 2015, tops the league in passing yardage with 1,161 yards and is a key reason Vienna is in the hunt again in Austria. His counterpart with Swarco, Sean Shelton, is as usual near the top of the stats standings in yardage and leads in touchdown passes thrown with 14 in four games. Ljubljana Silverhawks QB Anthony Gardner is right behind the top two with 1,070 yards and 11 TDs while Rangers signal caller Taurice Scott is a distant fourth and has thrown for 884 yards and 11 TDs. Danube Dragons QB Dylan Potts is in fifth with 816 yards and 10 TDS.

Receiving

The Mödling Rangers offense relies on the passing of Scott and the receiving of Roman Namdar who has 383 yards and eight touchdowns in four games, or two TDs per game. Silverhawks receiver Matci Tomse is Gardner’s favorite target with 369 yards. Vikings receiver Bernhard Seikovits has helped Vienna with 350 yards in receptions while Graz Giants receiver Armando Ponce de Leon follows closely with 341 yards in receiving. Patrik Slusny rounds out the tightly grouped Top 5 with 331 yards and four TDs.

Rushing

Danube Dragons RB Dylan Potts has accounted for a third of his team’s 153 points with his 54 points off of nine TDs. Almost 100 yards behind him is Blue Devils RB Colby Goodwyn with his 363 yards. Sandro Platzgummer has also scored nine touchdowns for the Raiders and his 321 yards rushing keeps the pressure off of quarterback Sean Shelton. Felix Stadler is one of the few bright lights for the winless Traun Steelsharks with 270 yards rushing. Finally, Vienna’s Alexander Hertel has rushed for 267 yards and five TDs.

Tackles

Linebacker Jayden Dobbs is called upon to make plays for the 0-4 Cineplexx Blue Devils more often than not and he has been doing that. With almost 37 tackles total, he is recording more than eight tackles per game. Swarco’s Simon Hoser is a distant second while his teammate Fabian Seeber is a close third with 25.5 total tackles. Thomas Schnurrer from the Projekt Spielberg Graz Giants has notched 24.5 tackles in total while Raiders linebacker Philipp Margreiter rounds out the Top 5 with 23.5.
