Braunschweig New Yorker Lions to Host EuroBowl XXIX

Braunschwieg v. Schwabisch Hall

Expect a wild, raucous crowd at EuroBowl XXIX when the defending German champions and 2014 EuroBowl runners-up the Braunscchweig New Yorker Lions play their German Bowl opponents the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns on June 20.

The New Yorker Lions have been selected to host the game and with their NFL like pregame festivities and boisterous atmosphere it will be a terrific spectacle.

Played at Stadion an der Hamburger Straße in Braunschweig the game is expected to draw a huge crowd. The Lions lead the German Football League (GFL) in attendance averaging upwards of 10,000 fans per game in regular season tilts. Expect far more for this one, even though it will be streamed live online on Livestream.

Road to Eurobowl XXIX

The Lions road to the final was not easy. The defending German champs had to come from behind to beat a stubborn Austria’s Swarco Raiders 33-28 and didn’t pull away from La Courneuve Flash until late in the second half, winning 37-14 in Paris.

The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns had an easier time of it whipping the defending champion Berlin Adler 57-15 and then taking a 31-10 halftime lead against the Vienna Vikings and coasting to a 45-23 victory.

Last year, the Berlin Adler won the contest defeating the very same Lions in a tight defensive battle 20-17. This year, defensive coordinators will be faced with aerial warfare as both quarterbacks are highly mobile and throw deep. This will not be a low scoring affair, to the delight of the fans.

Big6 and the EuroBowl

Traditionally, the EuroBowl has been held between the two finalists in the EFL competition, but since last year’s formation of the Big6, it has been between the two group winners of Big6 tournament.

This will be Braunschweig’s fourth appearance in EuroBowl. They have won it twice before in 1999 and 2003 and then lost last year’s contest. For Schwäbisch Hall, this will be their first trip to this final which has been held annually since 1986.

The Vienna Vikings have the record for the most appearances in the EuroBowl final with 10 in total and they have won it five times, most recently in 2013 when they beat the Swarco Raiders 37-14.
