Timbo T-Rex Start Fast, Finish Strong, Are Brasil Bowl Bound

Timbo T-Rex defense, and a torrential rainstorm, drown Arsenal’s shot at Brazil Bowl berth

CUIABA, BRAZIL – The Timbo T-Rex have earned the opportunity to defend their claim to the Brazilian American football title with a convincing win over the powerhouse Cuiaba Arsenal 20-7, in a rainsoaked battle at Arena Panatanal.  The T-Rex, of Brazil’s Confederação Brasileira de Futebol Americano (CBFA) Superliga, advance to face the Flamengo of Rio de Janeiro in the Brasil Bowl on December 18th.

Flamengo defeated the Joao Pessoa Espectros in the other semi-final 25-10.

When Brazil’s Torneio Touchdown (TTD) folded, and recently-appointed CBFA commissioner, Guto Sousa, actedly quickly (within a matter of days!) to secure a home for the now-orphaned TTD teams, American football fans all over Brazil rejoiced, knowing that very likely, some of their dream matchups between the teams of Brazil’s top two league’s, could finally come true. When two-time CBFA national champs, the Cuiaba Arsenal, hosted Conferencia Sul #1 seed, the Timbo T-Rex, at a World Cup Stadium, Arena Pantanal, one of those dream matchups happened.

The machine that is the Timbo offense clicked early, and with a big play from superstar linebacker, Luis Polastri, the Arsenal found themselves in a hole that not even their ultra-explosive offense could dig itself out of.

Timbo speedster RB, Well Garcia, put an exclamation point on his homecoming to Cuiaba, the city where he started his career, by breaking of a 47 yard touchdown run to open the games scoring.

Later in the first quarter, Polastri, who has put together a highlight-reel-of-a-season, made perhaps his biggest play all year, snagging a an interception and returning it 100 yards for a touchdown.

To finish out the first half, Rex quarterback, Carlos Bassani, hit his backup QB, Ivan Tonolli, with a touchdown strike that would put the visitors from Santa Catarina up 20-0 heading into the locker room.

The Arsenal could only muster one second half score, a touchdown pass from Daniel Perreira to Ken Joshen.

T-Rex linebackers, Dariel Suares (right) and Luis Polastri (left) were dominant in their teams semifinal road victory.

The win sets up a much-anticipated showdown with Brazil’s only remaining undefeated team, Flamengo, on Sunday, December 18, at 2 pm local time, at Estadio Olaria in Rio de Janerio.
