Central European Football League Cup expands in 2018

The SportKlub CEFL Cup tournament will be taking a huge step up in 2018.

The single elimination, or single round knock-out tournament which is played in parallel with the CEFL, brings together teams from Eastern European countries in a single-elimination Cup competition. In 2017,  teams from Serbia,  Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia competed with Serbia’s Novi Sad Dukes defeating the Kranj Alp Devils from Slovenia in the final.

The 2018 version of the developmental competition, designed to help grow the game of football in Eastern Europe, has attracted the interest of top level teams from other parts of Europe. So, for the upcoming season, the CEFL has decided to lift CEFL Cup to a higher level. The objective is to grow the CEFL Cup from a promotional tournament into a full-fledged cup competition for top-level teams. And several applicants have already voiced their intent to play in this knockout system.

Teams invited to apply

Central European Football League Director, Gabriel Dielacher is excited by the opportunities:

“In the shadows of our flagship tournament, the CEFL Championship, we have been developing CEFL Cup in order to enable more European teams to play football on an international level. Entering our 13th season driven by the impressive evolution of CEFL in recent years, we have decided to upgrade the CEFL Cup from a developmental competition to an attractive international tournament. Based on the high-caliber applications received so far, we are convinced that next year’s CEFL Cup will become an attractive European football event. The application process is still open to new candidates who will be able to retrieve all necessary information from our website www.european-league.com. We believe CEFL Cup 2018 will offer a number of high-quality games to the football community and its sponsors.”
