CFL issues apology over official’s F bomb

An expletive that resounded through Mosaic Stadium in a game between the hometown Saskatchewan Roughriders and the visiting Edmonton Elks, has triggered a swift apology from the Canadian Football League.

Earlier this evening, one of our officials used an expletive during the Riders-Elks game and it was picked up by an open microphone. We wish to apologize to any and all who were offended. The referee responsible has asked us to personally express his deep regrets, as well.

Apparently, the game’s chief official, Tom Vallesi, uttered the profanity, totally unaware that his microphone was still on after announcing that Saskatchewan had called a timeout before the start of the second half. His words echoed throughout the stadium after he declared the timeout for Saskatchewan.
