Indianapolis Colts safety Jonathan Owens and his wife, Olympic gymnastics champion Simone Biles, say three masked men stole a Porsche GTS from their Chicago-area home during their final months in the city.
Biles revealed the previously undisclosed theft on social media this week. The Porsche was eventually recovered, although she did not say exactly when the incident occurred or provide details about how the thieves took the car.
Owens had another close call
It wasn’t Owens’ first encounter with an attempted theft this year.
While attending the Winter Olympics with Biles in Milan in February, Owens said someone tried to snatch a shopping bag from his hand while he was walking down the street.
The attempt failed because Owens had wrapped the bag around his hand. He said the would-be thief immediately took off running.
The couple later added a Doberman to their household, with Biles saying the Chicago theft was one of the reasons for the decision.
New chapter with Colts
Owens left the Chicago Bears after two seasons and signed with the Colts as an unrestricted free agent in March.
The 31-year-old defensive back has played 84 regular-season games with 35 starts during an NFL career that has also included stops with the Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans and Green Bay Packers.
Now in his first season with Indianapolis, Owens has moved on from Chicago. The Porsche incident, however, added another unsettling chapter to his final months there.
