In a commanding performance, the Vysocina Gladiators (3-0) defeated the Znojmo Knights (1-1) 35-14. as the Czech Snapbacks League wound up its third weekend of action. The Gladiators showcased their offensive prowess and solid defense, leaving the Knights struggling to keep pace throughout the game.
Gladiators strike early
From the opening drive, the Gladiators made their intentions clear. Ashton Heard capped off a swift drive with a touchdown, putting Vysocina ahead 7-0. The Knights quickly faltered, unable to advance past midfield on their first possession. A successful punt return by Matěj Majerčák set up a promising opportunity for Znojmo, but a touchdown run by Šimon Krahula was called back due to a penalty. The Gladiators capitalized on the momentum, with Krahula eventually finding the end zone for a valid touchdown, extending the lead to 14-0 by the end of the first quarter.
Knights find their footing
The second quarter saw the Knights finally assert themselves offensively. Čeněk Čapek scored a 2-yard touchdown, narrowing the gap to 14-6. However, the rest of the quarter was dominated by defensive plays, including Kevin Sherman’s first interception of the game. Both teams attempted field goals, but neither was successful.
Heard shines in the second half
The second half began with Sherman snagging his second pick of the game, leading to a touchdown from Bezecný to Heard, pushing the Gladiators’ lead to 21-6. The Knights responded with another short touchdown from Čapek, making it 21-14. However, turnovers plagued Znojmo in the final quarter, allowing Heard to score two more touchdowns, bringing his total to four for the game. With Sherman’s third interception sealing the victory, the Gladiators triumphed 35-14, solidifying their strong start to the season.
