Dacia Vienna Vikings secure key road win, beat Prague Black Panthers in Prague

The Dacia Vienna Vikings (4-2) climbed back into second place in the Austrian Football League standings Sunday with a convincing 28-3 win over the Prague Black Panthers (3-3) in Prague.

This was the second time this year the Vikings have beaten Prague. They downed the Black Panthers 28-7 in the opening game of the AFL season.

This time they left no doubt taking a 28-0 lead into the fourth quarter before Prague managed to kick a field goal.

Vikings QB Austin Gerink completed 19 of 33 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for another. In only his second game with Vienna, Andrew Spencer caught one pass  for 78 yards and added a 45 punt return touchdown.  Bernhard Seikovits hauled in five passes for 33 yards and the other touchdown. Maurice Wappl kicked all four extra points.

Dylan Potts threw for 88 yards and rushed for 10 while Herbert Gamboa carried the ball 15 times for 57 yards for Prague. Martin Mandik accounted for Prague’s only points kicking a 29 yard field goal.

After a tentative first period which saw neither offense gain any momentum, Vienna opened the scoring midway through the second as Herink scampered 23 yards to cap a 78 yard, six minute drive to give his team a 7-0 lead. Then with less than a minute left in the first half, Herink struck again, this time hitting Spencer in stride for a 78 yard touchdown bomb, extending the lead to 14-0 at the half.

The third quarter saw the Prague offense still struggling. Midway through the period, Vienna scored again, this time as Herink finished off a 56 yard drive with a 16 yard touchdown pass to Seikovits upping the score to 21-0 with two minutes remaining.

Spencer scored his second touchdown of the afternoon with 17 seconds left in the third taking a Prague punt all the way back for a 45 yard touchdown.

The Black Panthers offense finally found a rhythm early in the fourth. Potts drove his team all the way from his own 27 yard line to the Vienna 12 and Mandik made good on a field goal.

The win was important for Vienna with four games left int he regular season. With four games left, they have a good chance of finishing in second and earning a bye in the first round of the playoffs.
