Denmark: Former NFL DB Desmond Cooper rejoins Søllerød Gold Diggers

The two-time Danish champions, the Søllerød  Gold Diggers, have brought back ex Jacksonville Jaguar safety Desmond Cooper for the 2019 season.

The 6’2″, 216 lb 26 year old Cooper, a native of Charleston, South Carolina, who played at both Wake Forest and UNC Charlotte, was outstanding for the  Gold Diggers in 2017, helping them reach the Danish final. In 2018, he also helped Poland’s Wroclaw Panthers reach the championship final.

He attended the Jacksonville Jaguars training camp and was the first ever graduate of UNC Charlotte to sign with an NFL team.

American Football International asked Desmond why he returned to the Gold Diggers.

Cooper:

“They gave me an opportunity to play again, be in a country I love and pick back up what I started by helping Danish kids to get a chance to play in America for high school and college. My focus is way different then it’s ever been. My goal is to win but not only on the field but off too.”

The talented defensive back will be called upon to play multiple positions including safety, corner and even linebacker while also help coach and develop youth teams. While at UNC Charlotte he was among the team’s leading tacklers recording a total of 89 over two seasons.
