Denmark: Triangle Razorbacks roll past Aarhus Tigers

Behind 170 yards rushing and two touchdowns from Spanish running back Adrian Jimenez, the Triangle Razorbacks rolled out to a 35-6 halftime lead and then cruised to a 41-6 win over the Aarhus Tigers Sunday in Aarhus, Denmark as the Danish National League wound up its first weekend of play.

Jimenez was a force until leaving the game with what seemed like a leg injury early in the second half, exploding for a 63 yard touchdown in the first quarter and then scoring again before the quarter ended.

The shell shocked Tigers defense had no answer for the hard-running Spaniard, who spent the 2019 season with the Hildesheim Invaders in the German Football League. By the time he limped off the field two minutes into the third quarter, he had amassed over 170 yards on the ground averaging 13 yards a carry.

Razorbacks quarterback Reed Gottula merely had to manage the game throwing for only 40 yards while his backup Peter Linemann threw for another 26. Triangle’s running backs did the rest rushing for 260 yards in total. Jimenenz did the bulk of the work but Johan Bang Andersen scored two touchdowns as well while rushing for 46 yards. Nico Lester had three carries for 23 yards. Jacob Callesen hauled in an 11 yard pass for a touchdown while Simon Knudsen returned an interception 53 yards for a score.

The bright spots for the young Tigers team on this day were quarterback Alexander Schwartz who threw for 100 yards and a touchdown, Markus Hachenberg who caught the lone touchdown pass and Magnus Urth who proved he could be dangerous. Wide receiver Frederik Andersen had two catches for 24 yards, Hjalmar Andersen had two for 24 and Chris Nielsen had two catches for 21 yards. Schwartz and his backup Christoffer Carstens distributed the ball with 10 different receivers catching passes.

The Razorbacks took a 15-0 first quarter lead on the touchdowns by Jimenez as well as a safety when the Tigers long snapper put the ball through his own end zone.  They scored three more times in the second as Callesen hauled in a 10 yard pass for a touchdown, Knudsen picked off a pass returning it 53 yards to increase the lead to 28-0 and Bang Andersen punched the ball in from the one. Aarhus had scored when Schwartz engineered a nice seven play, 80 yard drive tossing a three yard pass to Hachenberg for the touchdown.

With a 35-6 halftime lead, the Razorbacks started to move the ball again on their first possession of the second half until JImenez pulled up lame after a 37 yard gain with just 10 minutes to go in the third quarter. A missed field goal attempt gave the ball back to Aarhus and Schwartz looked sharp until the ball was snapped over his head. Another bad long snap over the punter’s head gave the Razorbacks the ball on the Tigers 20. Bang Andeersen scored his second touchdown of the day, increasing the lead to 41-6 and automatically triggering the mercy rule (34+point differential).

With the clock running the rest of the game, and the temperature in the high 80s (low 30s celsius) both teams seemed content with the result and the game ended with three straight Triangle incompletions.

Next up for the Razorbacks is a home date against the Copenhagen Towers on August 22 while on the same day, Aarhus heads to Aalborg to face the AaB 89ers.
