Double Coverage offers predictions on Great Britain’s Premier League

Editor’s note: Following the opening game of the season in Great Britain’s 12 team Premier League which saw the London Warriors trample the Bristol Aztecs 55-0, six more teams open their seasons this weekend. The North division is made up of the defending champion Tamworth Phoenix, the East Kilbride Pirates, Merseyside Nighthawks, Manchester Titans, Sheffield Giants and Edinburgh Wolves.

In the South, the Warriors and Aztecs are joined by the London Blitz, London Olympians, Bury Saints and Farnham Knights. The Warriors and Blitz had dominated the league for almost a decade winning every title between them from 2009 until 2016. Then, the Tamworth Phoenix, for years bounced from the semifinals by one of the two London teams, stunned the American football community by winning the 2017 BritBowl in decisive fashion over the Blitz.

So this year the experts from Double Coverage offer their predictions.

Our Way Too Early… predictions turn to the top flight now, as we see the Manchester Titans first foray in to Premier football in the North, and the Olympians returning to where they feel they belong in the South!

Premiership North

Tamworth Phoenix swept all before them in 2017, cleaning out the conference before knocking out the Warriors in the playoffs and defeating the Blitz at Britbowl. Down go Lancashire, replaced by Manchester Titans, who we hear defeated the Blitz in a low-scoring pre-season tussle. competed well with the Blitz in a preseason scrimmage (Eds.).

Edinburgh Wolves took to their debut top-flight campaign well, whilst East Kilbride Pirates suffered their worst season in a long while. Then there’s Merseyside Nighthawks, who continued to impress in the conference, and Sheffield Giants, who came on strong down the stretch after a poor start…

…and despite the venture in to Europe this season, we have our first and only clean sweep! #TeamDC unanimously opts for Tamworth to defend attack the conference title once again and launch another attack on the Britbowl title.

Premiership South

Always the bridesmaid… London Blitz took home the conference title in 2017 before losing out once again at the final stage. How will the agonising loss affect the coming in to the new campaign?

The London Warriors are rumoured to have lost a number of players in the off-season as they strive to regain dominance of the South. Meanwhile Bristol Aztecs will look to once again attempt to close the gap. London Olympians, back in the top tier, will look to assert themselves over Farnham Knights and Bury Saints, who both struggled in 2017.

We have ourselves a tie! Grant once again plays a wild card, opting for Bristol Aztecs, while the Blitz and Warriors split the remaining writers 6 votes each. Whatever happens, it’ll be another exciting season in the BAFA National Leagues!
